Having heart disease means it is stop smoking time in case your brain is still working properly. The day I came home from the hospital where I had a stent used in my heart I knew it was time to stop smoking cigarettes permanently. The problem was to find the best way to rid myself of depression, guilt, and irritability from numerous years of hurting myself by puffing this addictive stuff.
Don’t Listen to Your Friends
It may sound odd but sometimes your pals’ support makes it more difficult to stop smoking cigarettes. I really planned to die if I couldn’t smoke again. The first person I called after my heart surgery heard how desperate I sound and suggested I step outside and have a cigarette. He was probably afraid I might hurt him if I continued being so depressed. The next person I called had also had heart surgery recently. When he heard the entire frustration inside my voice he told me sometimes he still sneaks a smoke and suggested I do the same. I was still wanting to kill myself or anyone who I talked to, I was feeling that bad. This addiction is really a serious thing to kick.
The Doctor Nearly Killed Me
A trip to my family doctor caused more misery. He told me in order to relieve to simply smoke three or four cigarettes every day then to return in a single week. At my return visit he set me up with Zyban, a drug to help stop smoking cigarettes. The next day I developed hives and couldn’t breathe well. The doctor’s visit that night revealed I needed to adopt steroids and anti allergy pills to live. This idea to quit smoking was literally starting to kill me.
When you have cardiac arrest they put you through heart rehab courses. Skinny people teach you a healthy diet. Muscle building trainers squeeze BP sleeves on your arm when you exercise. A nurse there said once “if you smoke it’ll shrink the vein around a stent and you will die a painful death”. I did not want to add “painful” to my ailments so I decided to stop smoking cigarettes and discover a way that works.
Try Something Different
After trying cold turkey, a prescription drugs, exercise, and friend support there just had to be a method to give up smoking which worked for me. So I tried hypnosis. The first time I tried it I thought it was really, really stupid. It was not wonderful or funny or stuff like you might see on TV. I was awake and aware of everything that was being said during the process.
Perhaps the fact that I paid $100 and planned to get my money’s worth is why the hypnosis worked for the day. After the first day I figured yet another day was worth a try. Before long I was able to stop smoking without having a wish to kill everybody in my surroundings. Hypnosis got me on the road to stop smoking. Now, ten years later I have non smoking lungs.
Try whatever it takes to stop smoking and you’ll not regret it. Do research to find new ideas and become open to something that may help. Stop smoking starts with your desire and determination. Pretty soon you’ll discover what works best for you and you should stick to it.
